Concerned Mothers Questions About Proper Meth Abuse Treatment for 19 Yr. Old Daughter

Our 19 yr old daughter is in rehab right now and after 10 days seems to be doing well. I'm concerned that there is someone who specializes in meth, which is what she was taking IV use, on her treatment team. Where and how do we find a specialist or therapist who can help us understand and deal with the proper steps for treatment and recovery?

First let me say I am happy to know your daughter has taken her first step toward recovery but just remember this is going to be long process.

I am assuming your daughter is in an Inpatient Treatment Center. Inpatient Treatment is your daughter's best chance at a successful recovery.

When you refer to an individual specializing in meth being on your daughter's team I have to question whether you're referring to an employee or another addict.

If you are referring to an employee my advice would be for you to notify the director of the treatment center and also notify your local authorities.

If you are referring to another addict just try to remember that he/she is also trying to seek help.

When looking for a treatment center for your daughter you need to look for away from her current location and comfort zone. More often than not an individual has a better chance of success if they find a treatment center out of state.

Trying to seek treatment close to home equals possible relapse. It's to easy for the addict to quit treatment and start using again. There are too many distractions, temptations and makes it too easy for the addict to give into that temptation especially while going through withdrawals. Seeking treatment out of state makes it a complete fresh start for the addict with no fears or pressure.

It is suggested that any chronic meth users go through Long Tem InPatient Treatment. This really is their best chance for a successful recovery.

To help you find the appropriate treatment center for your daughter call 1-800-559-9503. They will provide you with the best treatment and counselor information but they also give addicts and families all the support they need. They really do care.

This is not going to be easy on you or your family either so my suggestion is to find a close friend or relative you can gain support and strength from an allow them to be your rock during this time. Also attend family therapy sessions with your daughter as this will help you both work through any problems and make your bond closer.

    Best of Luck
