    Feeling Better

    Question:
I have been sober for almost one year now, when am I going to feel physically better?

    Answer:
That's a hard question to answer because it depends on how long you used meth and if there were any other drugs or alcohol misused. Meth takes a major toll on your health mentally and physically so the longer meth was used and if use was chronic it can take a long time. If you weren't a chronic user and caused permanent damage it takes about the same length of time to get your health back as your drug use was. If you used occasionally for a year, it can take a year to regain your health and feel normal again. Some people take longer than others though.

Meth causes drastic changes in the brain and damage to the body and it takes a long time after sobriety to heal. If a person uses meth for several years they stand the chance of permanent damage to vital organs. They may never feel completely normal again. You should be proud of yourself though. Being sober for almost a year from meth use is commendable. Eating right and exercise is an important part of healing and health. Getting a good checkup from your doctor making sure everything is ok will rest your mind. You want to make sure you're not underweight also. Most people who use meth lose weight and eventually they're unhealthy and underweight. You want to maintain a healthy weight and eat healthy keeping fried food, sugar, and junk food at minimum. Be honest with your doctor about your meth use and find out if vitamin supplements would make a difference.

The most important thing you can do for yourself is to think positive and don't give up. You have done a remarkable thing for yourself and I know it wasn't easy. You have a wonderful future ahead of yourself, always look forward!
