The Misuse of Adderall Has Increased Among Women but Not for Treating Symptoms of ADHD

The Misuse of Adderall Has Increased Among Women but Not for Treating Symptoms of ADHD

Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant drug that's prescribed for treating symptoms associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or better known as ADHD. That's not the only reason people are taking Adderall today, some people are abusing this stimulant drug for reasons that have nothing to do with ADHD symptoms.

Surprisingly many women are taking the prescription stimulant drug so they can get everything done in a day's time they need to and are easily becoming addicted.

ABC News reports that there's been an increase of seven hundred and fifty percent from the year 2002 through 2010 for Adderall prescriptions written to women and they don't all have ADHD. Women don't have enough time and energy in a day to get everything accomplished and many women are taking Adderall in order to 'keep up'.

It's extremely hard for women to keep up with their daily responsibilities anymore, women are juggling careers, taking care of the home, and many are raising children, sometimes on their own. Attempting to be "super moms" isn't the only reason women in their 20's and 30's are misusing the prescription drug Adderall many of them take the drug to lose weight also.

Adderall is extremely addictive especially if a person is taking them for the wrong reasons and using a higher dose than prescribed. The misuse and abuse of Adderall is getting out of control and many women are addicted to the drug now and are in need of treatment because they can't stop on their own.

Women are also risking an Adderall overdose because they have to increase their dose once they have become dependent on them, which could end up being fatal. Abusing prescription drugs can lead to addiction, organ damage, breathing problems, seizures, strokes, heart attacks, and possibly death.
