Childhood Behavioral Problems Associated with Meth Use During Pregnancy

Childhood Behavioral Problems Associated with Meth Use During Pregnancy

There are many different serious reasons a person should never experiment with methamphetamine use but young people today as well as adults continue to use the stimulant drug for various reasons. Once a person has become addicted to meth it's extremely hard to stop using the drug unless they receive help from experienced addiction specialists. They understand the long term effects of methamphetamine use and necessary steps that need to be taken to ensure a successful recovery.

Another reason to avoid methamphetamine use or to receive help for meth addiction is because of the effects the drug has on an unborn child if they're exposed to the stimulant in the womb. Studies and research are being done all the time concerning substance abuse and the effects it has on the user, their families, and loved ones and on society. There are also important studies regarding the effects substance abuse has on our children if they were exposed to drugs before they were born.

Studies that are done on children that were exposed to drugs like meth while in the womb don't always include following up with them during their childhood. Fortunately we do have some information now associated with babies exposed to methamphetamine while in the womb and the effects prenatal exposure has on them into their childhood as far as behavioral issues go.

According to MedlinePlus, behavioral problems such as anxiety, depression and ADHD are associated with prenatal methamphetamine exposure. Unfortunately when we make the choice to use drugs like meth or any other substance, we're not the only ones that risk serious consequences from our choices and behaviors. These consequences can stay with us for a lifetime.

Children are affected deeply when their parents expose them to drugs like meth during their pregnancy and the effects can stay with them for the remainder of their life. Think about it, if abusing drugs like methamphetamines or any other substance can affect you for the rest of your life, you're unborn child growing inside you is no different. They grow up suffering from the effects of substance abuse and they didn't have a choice in the matter, but YOU did.
